The DList Magazine January issue is the "Wedding Issue" so the fashion photography spread of course needs to be some incredible shots to feature some great wedding gowns. I have visited Januik Winery in Woodinville Washington on a few occasions and knew I wanted to do a shoot there from the minute I pulled up to the venue. The setting was perfect for us and provided an amazing backdrop to compliment the models and the gorgeous dresses from La Belle Reve in Bellevue Washington. www.jean-marcus.com

Kelsi and Kurt asked me to do some engagement photos for them. Now this particular weekend I had done 3 photo shoots in West Seattle including theirs. I feel that I managed to get some pretty great photos of all three shoots and still make them look unique from the other shoots. Engagement Pictures: Seaside Oregon

Seaside Oregon is just an amazing place. A stones throw away from Haystack Rock in Canon Beach and a beach that stretches out for what seems like a mile from the board walk. I drove down for Cameron and Diana's engagement photos and was really worried about the weather because it went from sunny to rainy to cloudy to sunny to tornado to snow (okay maybe not the last two). The pictures turned out really well and we worked with what we were given and photographed inside an arcade during the rain. www.jean-marcus.com

Fashion Photography Dlist Magazine August '09 Issue "Candy Warhol"

Augusts issue of DList Magazine ended out panning out pretty great for our "Beauty Issue." Our fashion stylist came up with the concept of "Candy Warhol" and had the hair and make up influenced by classic candies like Hershey's Kisses, Abba-Zabas, Jelly Bellys, swirl pops, and Pop Rocks. Then she found Andy Warhol quotes that tied in almost perfectly along with the photos. It was almost as if Andy was speaking about the photos themselves. www.jean-marcus.com

Destination Wedding: St. Thomas US Virgin Islands: Amanda & Ron

Who doesn't want to photograph a destination wedding in the Virgin Islands? Amanda and Ron had a really nice private wedding with their family and a couple close friends and it was really nice. I got the chance to get to know them all and made some new friends as always.

Plus the "trash the dress" shoot ended up being in Trunk Bay on St. John. My father visited Trunk Bay when I was a kid and I had a picture of it up on my wall for years. I am glad I finally got to go there for myself. www.jean-marcus.com

DList Magazine: July '09 Issue "Seattle Sounders"

So DList Magazine lined up a couple of the guys from the Seattle Sounders to be on our cover for July 09 and also be our models for the fashion spread. These guys are just way too much fun and super nice and had us in stitches. Steve Zakuani, Sebastien Le Toux, James Riley were just a blast.

CONCERT: The Prodigy @ WaMu Theater USC 12

Haven't seen The Prodigy for maybe like 10 years or something. They still put on a heck of a show and even though I only got 3 songs to photograph them (typical music management bs) I think I got some amazing photos that captured the show.

It was for the 12th annual USC electronic music show at the WaMu Theater.

DList Magazine: May 09 Dine Review Ethan Stowell

This was one of my favorite Dine Review's for DList Magazine. For May's issue we went to Ethan Stowell's 4 Seattle restaurants: "Union", "How to Cook a Wolf", "Tavolata", and "Anchovies & Olives."

Siiiiix hours we were fed so many delicious items. My favorite hands down was at "How to Cook A Wolf" though. It was the Tuna Bruschetta... I believe thats what it was called. I was too busy shoving my face after taking pictures of it. Sadly it was so dark that I couldn't get the lighting right so I didn't put the picture up here. BUT GET IT if you are there.

If you have seen the movie "Drop Dead Gorgeous" you will probably appreciate the humor behind this spread we did.

June is always our bikini issue at DList Magazine, and I have to admit I don't hate the month of June, and Kristen, our fashion stylist, came up with the concept of 'behind the scenes' of all the drama of a beauty pageant. I knew as soon as she said the concept that it was going to be an awesome shoot.

We shot this at Trinity Night Club in Seattle and it ended up being the perfect spot for this shoot because the large wood floor and huge red velvet drapes gave the perfect look for a stage.

WEDDING: Playa Del Carmen MX: Johanna & Doug

Johanna & Doug's destination wedding was yet again in one of my favorite places. The Mayan Riviera. The ceremony was in a quaint catholic church in Playa Del Carmen (my favorite city in Mexico) and their reception was back at the Azul Sensatori Resort Hotel in Puerto Morelos which is about 15 minutes south of Cancun. Yet another Destination Wedding that was a complete success. They usually are though ;)

WEDDING: Seattle: Amanda & Matthew

Every once in a while you get one of those weddings were almost everything goes perfect and there are no hang ups or glitches. This one was pretty much that. It rained in the morning so we were unable to do the "First look" photos out doors but we got lucky with some glorious sunshine when we were ready to start shooting outside.

The ceremony and reception where both held at the Tyee Yacht Club in Seattle.

Proposal: Seattle: Kylie & George

So I have known Kylie and George for a few years now and George had mentioned that he was going to propose to her and knew that I did hidden photography during the actual proposal. Like most couples that I shoot during the proposing they tend to be couples that I already know because most don't consider having it documented unless they already know of it a head of time or I mention it to them.

He called me about a month or so ago and wanted to know when would be good for me and when I wouldn't be out of town. He said he was going to have a private tour set up at the Mariners Safeco Field Stadium. He put me in touch with the gentleman that was going to be in charge of getting the private tour together. The three of us figured out the logistics of how it would all go down and where to have me best positioned in the stands to get the best angles and shots and to stay out of view. Kylie knew that this was something I did and if she saw me at all she would know what was up.

I went out and rented a 600 mm 4.0 IS lens and had it mounted firmly on a sturdy tripod with my new canon 5D Mark II digital SLR camera way up behind all the bleachers under the cover of shade. Just to be sure I dressed in black and covered the lens with a black shirt. I had the camera on a wireless remote release to minimize movement of the camera and also being able to duck down out of the way. I also shot with my other 5D camera with my 24-105 IS 4.0 L lens to get some wide angle shots of the entire stadium and the score board.

It all went off without a hitch and she had no idea. They even looked right up at me and never even noticed I was there. She was so surprised as soon as she saw the score board and said "yes" before George even finished asking the fateful question.

DList Magazine: March 09 Issue

The fashion stylist, Kristen Puckhaber, and I always seem to come up with some great concepts, especially considering that we always have to rethink or redo our concept two days before the actual shoot.

Such was the case yet again with this issue. When her and I put our heads together we always end up being on the same creative level and are able to make some magic happen.

WEDDING: Seattle: Venus and Aysa

Venus and Aysa was another nice couple. I seem to get pretty lucky with all the nice couples. They got ready at the Hyatt hotel in Seattle with the ceremony at First Covenant Church on Capital Hill. The reception was at the Harbor Club.

Sadly we ran 2.5 hours late with everything so we were unable to get a lot of the photos we intended to with the two of them. Wanted to go take photos in the industrial district of town for some editorial type shots and then out to West Seattle for some city scape shots. Considering we only had about 30 minutes to get to the ceremony I'd say we got some good shots in between.

I will tell you this much, I've never seen more dancing at any reception than this one. The guests were up dancing during the entire reception even during and before the dinner. It was so much fun.

WEDDING: Seattle: Nicole and Kevin

I've come to realize that New Years Eve weddings always tend to be a party to remember. Nicole and Kevin definitely solidified that theory yet again. Well having met these two for our initial visit I could tell that this was going to be a party to remember.

The cake alone was the biggest cake I have seen personally at a wedding. Seven tiers for five different delicious flavors from Starry Nights Catering. SO good. Plus it was at the Liberty Theater in Puyallup which makes for a fun festive place for a wedding. At midnight they dropped hundreds of balloons from the ceiling.

WEDDING: Seattle:Katherine and Demetre

Katherine and Demetre was a wedding I shot December 08 at The W Hotel and St. Demetrios Church here in Seattle. They requested just real straight forward candid shots and barely any posed shots except for a handful of group shots. Katherine mentioned that she wasn't to fond of getting her photo taken but I think she warmed up to me ;) hahah.

Those greeks know how to have a good time that's for sure. Probably about half the photos I took were of people dancing and having a great time doing their traditional Greek dances.

DList Magazine: February '09 Issue

Well this February issue of DList Magazine was fairly simple for me. The cover ended up being a promo shot from the band that was already taken and the restaurant we reviewed had everything shot already. SO, I had that much more time to focus on the fashion spread. We had the great pleasure of having two gorgeous models. First off Jenascia Chakos from Americas Next Top Model season 2. This was the first shoot she has really done since the show and she seemed like she had never stopped doing it. And our second model was a total life saver since the first model bailed on us the night before. Mariya Nabilskaya totally came through and filled in the spot even better then the original model would have. So it was really a blessing in the long run.

DList Magazine: January '09 Issue "Seattle Mist"

For the first issue of '09 we thought we would feature some "NEW" things for the new year.

First off the new Lingerie Football League "Seattle Mist" is on our cover as well some shots and interviews of the girls for the "Distinct"section.

Secondly our fashion spread is "Out with the old & In with the new" and we had the great privilege of photographing the spread inside the original Rainier brewery in Georgetown. It is around 100 years old and has remained vacant for about 60 years. I am sure you can easily see why I was so eager to photograph this shoot at this specific location.

And I want to thank Sabey Corporation for allowing us to shoot in there.

WEDDING: Semiahmoo- Suzanne & Jeff

Suzanne & Jeff chose a gorgeous location for their wedding. Semiahmoo is this golf resort up by the Canadian border a bit away from Bellingham. I just loved the way the photos turned out and there were so many options for photography that we didn't even have enough time to photograph everywhere I wanted to take pictures. But I sure am pleased with what we got.

WEDDING: Cancun MX - Trish & Travis

Trish & Travis... the second of two couples I photographed down in Cancun MX during the week in Oct 08. It really helps when you can click with a couple like you do with these two couples. Plus I got to go deep sea fishing with Travis for the first time. Photos of the wedding day turned out great but sadly the "trash the dress shoot" had all sorts of set backs. Super high humidity fogging up the lens, being escorted out of the Tulum Ruins and not being allowed to photograph there and never making it down to the beach and having to trick them to think we erased all the photos. We did take some at the beach at the hotel but the lighting wasn't as great as it should have been and we had to rush to get to the airport to make our flight.

Brooke and Jason were one of two couples I shot down in the Cancun MX area at the Paradisus Riviera Cancun resort during the week in October 08. Both couples nice as can be and am really pleased with all the photos. Never enough time though to get everything you want though.

DList Magazine: November Issue- Cover Blayne Walsh

Blayne Walsh from Project Runway Season 5 was the cover for November. Had a blast shooting him and had a lot of laughs. There are also a bunch of shots we took of him for the inside interview that I might get around to posting.

The fashion spread (not Blayne Walsh's creations I want to point out) was a real straight forward black and white background shoot with a fun miss-matched disheveled look.

This shoot ended up being even better then I imagined it would have turned out. The theme was "Till death do us part". We had a fashion designer named Kristi McDonough rehash and revamp two dresses that we purchased at a second hand store. I let the grass in my yard grow for 2 months till it was out of control and as it turned out when we went to shoot all the apples had fallen off the tree in the back. It turned out to be perfect.

So this months issue we were covering Denim. The editor in chief and I were watching "Freedom '90" video by George Michael and he said we should do a photo shoot like that. And well I ran with it. As you can see I think i did a pretty great job of recreating the key scenes from the video. And for the cover we decided to recreate the infamous Herb Ritts photo with all the super models. We had a blast...

Blake Lewis from American Idol came to our office to shoot for the cover and some other shots for the article. Surprisingly to me he was a totally down to earth and fun guy. During the shoot one of the bulbs on the studio lights blew up and shattered the entire protective glass casing. It was so loud that it almost sounded like a gun shot and all of us paused for a second to see if we should drop to the ground hahaha.

Sirbrina from the reality show "Shot at Love" with Tila Tequila was our cover model and "Distinct" article for this month.

The fashion spread turned out even better then I expected. Funny that I walked past the hookah bar where we shot for years and never went inside. Turned out to be the best possible spot to shoot our "Fashion in Wonderland" themed spread.
